DETAILS The Lodge Kura Hulanda & Beach Club is a gated resort that opened in 2005 on the northwestern coast of Curaçao, the largest of the Netherlands Antilles islands, in the southern Caribbean just north of Venezuela. Various residential options are available at the resort, including homesites at least a half acre in size and a new enclave of 18 three-bedroom adjoining villas. There are 16 sites now and another 11 are planned to be offered for sale in the near future. The two-story, furnished villas, which will be in three- and four-unit clusters, will have marble floors, patios fronting the ocean and terraces with plunge pools. A rental program will be available to owners. There is a pool on top of a cliff at the resort, with steps nearby that lead down to the white-sand beach. A reef is just offshore, and the resort has its own dive shop. Among the multiple restaurants is a beach bar and grill. A fitness center, tennis courts, spa treatments, trails for hiking and biking and a business center are available as well. Daily shuttle service runs between the resort and its sister property, the Hotel Kura Hulanda Spa & Casino, about 40 minutes away in Willemstad, the capital; this 80-room hotel is housed in Dutch colonial buildings that are part of a Unesco World Heritage site. The island’s airport, with flights from the United States, is about a half hour from the Lodge.

Breaking Ground is a weekly look at projects, planned or under construction, that include weekend or vacation homes.
